Turkey, ham, stuffing, potatoes, three options of pie: during the holidays many of us sit at a table with too many options to fit on our plate. Unfortunately, there are many families in our own communities that are food insecure. A startling fact: one out of every five kids in America struggles with hunger.
November 2015, Pipestone and their employees took hunger head on with their Give a Helping Ham fundraiser. Pipestone matched employee donations 1:3 and donations were distributed out to local food banks that service dozens of counties surrounding them, including: Feeding South Dakota in Sioux Falls, SD, Northeastern Iowa Food Bank, Independence, IA, and Food Bank of Southern Iowa in Ottumwa, IA.
Together, Pipestone and their employees were able to raise enough to donate 20,000 pounds of ham through Give a Helping Ham to the above food banks! Enough to give a ham to 2500 families this holiday season.
